Shining a Light on Dyslexia

Join us for expert presentations and informative discussions, focusing on the neurobiological learning disability known as dyslexia. Dyslexia affects 20 percent of the population and represents 80-90 percent of all those with learning disabilities. Presenters Dr. Gabrielle Wilcox PsyD, NCSP, R.Psych, Sara Peden R.Psych, Dr. Elka Walsh and Vance Beblow will open the floor to Q&A and discussion following the screening of the documentary The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia. The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia explores the complex and often challenging world faced by those who have dyslexia. James Redford, the son of Hollywood actor Robert Redford, directed the film which emphasizes specific areas where dyslexic people excel and suggests thoughtful strategies for their success. In conjunction with Dyslexia Awareness Month, with the support of the Calgary Public Library, Dyslexia Canada and Decoding Dyslexia Alberta this workshop provides opportunities to connect with parents, educators and others interested in learning and engaging in discussions about Dyslexia.
