Exploring Religion: A Niche of Their Own - The Nuns of Baoshan

Baoshan, a little-known Chinese Buddhist sacred site, includes rare inscribed niches with portrait-statues of the deceased. This provides our largest in situ collection of records of seventh-century Chinese Buddhist nuns. In this talk explore the inscriptions and images of four nuns and discuss what this can tell us about their practices.
